About Lou
“Through the layers of paint, I conceal and reveal layers of myself.”
I’m an abstract artist working primarily in two-dimensional multimedia, yet my work is deeply rooted in the exploration of dimension and space.
My creative process is a journey that blends planning with intuition, allowing me to react instinctively and be vulnerable in the moment.
Each piece seeks to evoke a sense of depth and movement, reaching beyond the flat surface to invite viewers into a layered experience. When I’m in the flow, I feel a powerful connection with the surrounding energy, which becomes an essential part of the work itself.
Artist Statement
Although words can sometimes fail to convey the full spectrum of our thoughts and emotions, art surpasses these limitations, offering a richer and often more meaningful form of expression. As a child with dyslexia, I found my voice in the world of art. I began with photography, capturing stories through the lens of my camera, and eventually transitioned to painting, where I could weave narratives with color and brushstrokes.
My brain seeks order, but rather than stringing together letters to form words, I create compositions with lines, colors, and shapes. I see patterns and symbols. Just as letters are symbols, where a few letters grouped together can hold meaning and evoke powerful emotions, so can an artwork’s arrangement.
Art as an experiment: Expressing emotions through color. Form and hue communicate. The process is deeply emotional, a journey without a specific destination. My evolution is in the journey itself. For example, I am currently exploring collage and the play of textures.
My artworks reflect my past: An interest in microbiology, studying simple forms, their structure, and function. My work in the technology sector, involving circuit boards, is echoed in the importance of lines in my work. Lines are like a journey that extends beyond the canvas. Colors are chosen based on my emotional state, changing with my moods and layered through various mediums.
Contrast and patterns: Colors placed next to each other induce emotions, just as those kept apart create tension. A stroke of red may resonate, inspire, or enrage. A blue may soothe, evoke mourning, or trigger a childhood memory.
My work builds upon what has come before. I layer creative foundations with experimental directions. The act of creating starts as a deeply personal process, initially meant for myself, and then evolves into a desire for interaction. Artistically, I move to a new place after exploring an experiment to its conclusion.
Intellect starts the process as a warm-up, but emotion takes over. Lines are more intellectual, textures more emotional. Themes weave fluidity with hard, floating objects.
My work is my diary. Once a canvas is complete, its interpretation is up to the viewer.
